Steve:
I had very bad, bad teeth and during a sporting event back in my teens, I lost my four front teeth. So I’ve had a partial plate now, for the last 48 years, and my wife Ray decided to get her upper and lowers done, the implants, and they came out so great. I decided to do the same.
Dr. Salem:
Steve and Rae. Oh my goodness, I love these guys. They’re like a magical couple. When we see them walk in the door and you see their kindness and compassion for one another. It just warms everybody in our office. Steve brought his wife here to us because she was having really a difficult time with her dentures. They were moving around and there are lots of bone loss and just a few teeth remaining.
Rae:
I grew up in a household that there was’nt a lot of money and more of us went to a dentist when you had something drastically wrong with you. So my teeth were never really taken care of as a child. In the field I work in, I meet with clients and it’s all one-on-one attention. So I did, I always felt self-conscious about my teeth and I felt that I really needed to do something.
Dr. Salem:
She wanted to have something that she could smile and function with and be able to eat normal food. So she decided she was going to do a locator attachment case where she had dentures that would pop in and out and after wearing those for a while, she decided she wanted to try the fixed option. So we converted her case from something that snaps in and out for a hybrid case and now it’s fixed to full arch cases. First, we did the bottoms and now we’re doing her tops.
Rae:
Sometimes I have to look in the mirror and realize what people are seeing because I think, I just think on my head is how I always had looked. So, I do, I find, I have to look at my self and say “Oh my gosh, this is how my smile is today.”
Dr. Salem:
Steve was kind of quiet about his own condition but would tell me, you know, someday you’re going to fix mine too, you’re going to fix mine too, and then, one day, he got toothache and that became more important for him that he start to attend his own issues and focus on what was important for him and his own health. He decided to do the same thing. He was ready for full fixed prosthesis and we did his top teeth and he could not be happier.
Steve:
It’s the easiest thing I’ve ever done in my life. She made it so easy. I came in, I wasn’t afraid. I had all the confidence in the world, I know she’s very, very talented. It was just a great experience. I mean, I can’t believe it was that easy and I’ve ignored it for so many years. I wish I had done it years ago. The technology is incredible in this office and what they do. All the people in this office are just fabulous. You just have that great feeling when you walk in the door, you really do.
