Frequently Asked Questions
In our experience, an informed patient is usually a healthy one as well, so below, we’ve answered some of your most popular dental-related questions. After looking over this page, if you still have a question that hasn’t been answered, feel free to give us a call and ask! We’re always happy to talk to you and make sure you have all the information you need about your dental care.
How often should I go to the dentist?
We, along with the American Dental Association, recommend that patients of all ages should plan to attend at least two checkups and cleanings each year, or one every six months. These appointments give our team the chance to catch and treat small issues before they can become major headaches, and they can even help us prevent cavities and gum disease from developing in the first place!
Can I bring my children to Pearl Dental Associates?
Yes! We’re happy to treat entire families in Holbrook and Scituate, and that includes their youngest members. From toddlers to teenagers and everyone in between, we have the comfortable environment and kid-friendly services growing smiles need to enjoy lifelong health and beauty.
My gums bleed every time I brush. Should I be worried?
Not necessarily. Have you recently started flossing? If so, a little bleeding for the first few sessions is very common, and it should stop if you maintain the habit. Another common cause for bleeding gums is brushing and flossing with too much pressure, so try cleaning your teeth with a lighter touch for about a week and see if that helps. If it doesn’t, then it’s likely that you have early-stage gum disease, in which case you should contact us right away. You won’t be able to treat it on your own, and left alone, it will only tend to get worse!
What is the best way to replace my missing teeth?
While the answer to this will be different for each patient, for those interested in closing the gaps in their smile, we would highly recommend dental implants. In short, they offer the most complete and natural-looking tooth restoration available today, and they can easily last for 30 years or more as well. We can use them to replace any number of teeth, and unlike most other practices, we can provide the entire procedure right here at Pearl Dental Associates.
I think I might have a cavity. What should I do?
If you’re noticing discoloration on one of your teeth or are experiencing any lingering dental pain, make sure you contact us right away. A cavity will only grow worse over time, and eventually, you’ll need a root canal or the tooth will have to be removed! However, if you come to see us soon enough, then we can likely take care of it in just one visit using either a tooth-colored filling or CEREC crown.
Do I have to get metal braces to straighten my teeth?
Not anymore! Our practice can now fixed crooked, crowded, and gapped teeth using either Invisalign or MTM clear aligners. These systems utilize a series of custom-made clear plastic trays to slowly shift the teeth into their proper positions. They are so subtle-looking that no one will notice you’re wearing them unless you tell them. They are easily removable as well, meaning you can take them off whenever it’s time to eat or brush. To learn which option might be a good fit for you, contact us today.
Will you accept my insurance?
Yes. Pearl Dental Associates is in-network and accepts several major PPO plans, and we’re ready and able to maximize your benefits at every visit. To learn how we can use your particular plan to help you save, contact us today.
I don’t have dental insurance. Is there a way I can finance my care?
Yes! You can sign up for low-to-no interest financing with CareCredit or LendingClub right through our website. They have plans designed to work for any budget, and they have already helped many of our patients easily afford their dental care.
